Success Story
Stefan Ivanov
Senior Risk Manager
I studied Accounting and Audit at the University of Economics in Varna, when
I accidentally saw the announcement that changed my life. The local
coordinator encouraged my to apply for the program and although I had second
thoughts about leaving my country and interrupting my education, I decided
to take the chance and seize the opportunity.
With the Erasmus program, I had a lot of opportunities, not just to study
abroad, but to encounter new people, make new friends, visit new places and
countries. However, the stay in Germany didn't entail only amusements and
parties, but also a lot of hard work. The Study in the one of the best
Business Schools in Germany was not as a "walk in the park". At the
beginning I experienced some difficulties adjusting myself to the local way
of life, but in a few months I got more disciplined and got used to organize
my time. The ability to combine duty with pleasure, gained during my stay in
Mannheim, currently helps me a lot in my professional and casual duties.
The University of Mannheim and its campus exceeded all my expectations in
every single detail. The building, the infrastructure, the study halls, all
the facilities were capable to unleash the thirst for knowledge in every
student, even the laziest one.
The excellent academic knowledge I was able to acquire at the University of
Mannheim gave direction of my career in the area in finance and the risk
management. The unique advantage for me was the chance to do several
specific courses that I could not have attended at my home university and
not only at my university, but in Bulgaria at all.
Currently I occupy the position of Senior Risk Manager in one of the biggest
Bulgarian Banks, part of a huge European Banking Group, where I successfully
apply the knowledge, I was able to gain during my study at the University of
Mannheim.
