Informatics

Informatics Department was established in 1969 under the name Organization of Machining Economic Information. In that year an eponymous program was opened, in which the first class of 40 students began its training.

In its development the program repeatedly changed its name to: Organization and Design of the Economic Information Processing (in 1976); Social-Economic Information (in 1983); and Economic Informatics (in 1990). After the adoption of the updated State Register of majors in 1997, the university began training of students in Informatics program from professional direction 4.6. Informatics and Computer Science.

Since 2007 Informatics Department has begun training in one more bachelor program – Business Information Systems.

Currently, the department is the only one in the university, which administrates undergraduate, graduate and PhD programs in two professional directions: Informatics and Computer Science and Economics. The department administrates two bachelor programs – Informatics and Business Information Systems, and four master programs – Informatics; Applied Informatics; Business Information Systems, and IT Innovations in Business. Lecturers of the department participate in the training of all other students in UE-Varna. The department also prepares PhD students in programs Informatics and Application of Computing in Economics.

Informatics Department maintains a high quality of training in one of the most dynamic areas. In the department there are 24 full-time lecturers (incl. 1 professor, 7 associate professors and 2 chief assistants PhDs) and 12 part-time lecturers (incl. 2 professors and 3 associate professors).

The department stimulates students’ activities by conducting a review of students’ performance, Olympiad of programming, design competition, and internet blog competition. The department carries out the preparation of student teams of programming.

The members of the department are among the most active in terms of participation in working groups in the university, including in competitions for selection and supply of equipment, in projects for websites and web design, in development of project proposals on European and national programs, in organization of online lectures and conferences, and etc.
